Project Description:
On December 18th I will discuss life as an immigrant, cultural difference and similarities, and history with Monica Palma, a Brooklyn based painter from Mexico city. I will cook her a meal of her choosing, and we will speak casually and frankly about her experiences as an immigrant.
After, we will discuss the biblical tower of Babel. I will provide historical imagery surrounding the tower ranging from medieval tapestries, painters like Lucas van Valckenborch, to Tatlin’s monument, or Ai Weiwei’s sculpture. The conversation and lunch will end with us drawing our own interpretation on the tower. This could be a simple copy, a utopian vision, or maybe an abstraction, we will find out as it happens.
