Project Description: Our project for the Immigrant Day of Action is to continue our efforts in creating awareness about the human rights crisis in Western Sahara, Africa’s last colony.

For more than 35 years, the Sahrawi people led by the POLISARIO Front (recognized by the UN as their legitimate representative) have been fighting for independence and the right for self-determination. Today more than 150,000 Sahrawis are exiled in refugee camps outside Tindouf, Algeria, and hundreds of thousands more suffer human rights abuses under Moroccan occupation inside their homeland.

Our event is designed to be as effective on December 18th as afterward when someone chooses to visit our IMI web page. Our project is to organize a simultaneous screening of a video portraying the Sahrawi’s struggle for freedom. The video will be shown in the refugee camps of Tindouf, in the Occupied Territories of Western Sahara, and in Algiers, Sevilla, Dublin, and New York. By making the link available here, it can also be seen anywhere, everywhere, and at anytime. We ask everyone to watch it with us in spirit, and in solidarity with the Sahrawi People.

Nuestra propuesta para el Día del Inmigrante es continuar nuestros esfuerzos en crear conciencia sobre la crisis de derechos humanos en el Sáhara Occidental, la última colonia de África.

Desde hace más de 35 años, el pueblo saharaui dirigido por el Frente Polisario (reconocido por la ONU como su legítimo representante) ha estado luchando por su independencia y su derecho a la autodeterminación. Hoy, más de 150.000 saharauis viven exiliados en los campos de refugiados cerca de Tinduf, en Argelia, y cientos de miles más sufren violaciones de sus derechos humanos en su propia patria bajo la ocupación marroquí.

Nuestro evento está pensado para funcionar tanto el 18 de diciembre como después, cuando alguien visite la página web del IMI. Nuestro proyecto consiste en organizar la proyección simultánea de un vídeo que retrata la lucha de los saharauis por su libertad. El video se mostrará en los campos de refugiados de Tinduf, en los territorios ocupados del Sáhara Occidental, y en Argel, Sevilla, Dublín y Nueva York.
